<abstract>NJDOT has adopted a new data model for their transportation network. This data model was designed using portions of the ESRI UNETRANS data model, and incorporates existing data with more recent spatial and roadway inventory data. These data will encompass the NJDOT statewide road network, as well as public roads that fall outside of the NJDOT's jurisdiction. Roads were digitized using 2002 New Jersey statewide orthophotos, which were produced at a scale of 1:2400 (1"=200') with a 1 foot pixel resolution. The orthophotos were captured during February-April 2002, and were ortho-rectified to a +/- 4.0 foot horizontal accuracy at a 95% confidence level. Roads were digitized to the visible center of a street, within a tolerance of +/- 3 feet and then attributed using data collected for the Maintenance Management Systems and Local Road Inventory projects (2002-2005), which are both NJDOT BTDD data collection projects. Only public roads were digitized and attributed. Roads were digitized as divided where there was a visible, physical median separating carriageways for a length of greater than 600 feet. In the secondary direction, along median separated segments of roadway in the south and westbound directions, the milepost values are opposite to those in the primary direction. Ramps were digitized when the gore-to-gore distance was greater than 25 feet. This dataset does not include address range attributes. The project began in November 2003, and was completed by May 31, 2005.</abstract>
<purpose>Provide a comprehensive road network of New Jersey that conforms to the NJDOT data model. This road network does not include private roads.</purpose>

SRI
In the case of a secondary direction SRI where the identifier already exists in the SLD database, the SRI was temporarily given a 'Z' suffix in order to maintain separation of linework and data.
The SRI naming convention for NJ routes is as follows:

Where:
CC - County code (00-21, see following pages). This will be 00 for all State, Interstate, US, Toll Authority, and 500 Routes.
MM - The two digit municipality code (see following pages). This will be 00 for Interstate, US, Toll Authority and State Routes, and County Routes (500, 600, and 700 Series). RRRR - The four-digit road number. For numbered routes (Interstates, State and US routes), this number will be the posted route number (right-justified). S - The route suffix if one exists (B - Business; A - Alternate; S - Spur). For example, this would be "B" for US 1 Business. If a suffix does not exist, a "_" character will be used. D - The primary direction in which the route runs (N, S, E, W). This will be used for the secondary direction on divided highways. For undivided routes, or the primary direction of divided routes, a "_" character will be used.
Q - Ramp Description. This character is reserved for the ramp description. The descriptions are as follows:
A - Off ramp exiting the predominant route in the primary direction (increasing milepost readings) of the predominant route.
B - On ramp entering the predominant route in the primary direction of the predominant route.
C - Collector lanes in the primary direction of the predominant route.
X - Off ramp exiting the predominant route in the secondary direction (decreasing milepost readings) of the predominant route.
Y- On ramp entering the predominant route in the secondary direction of the predominant route.

<srccontr>Digital color infrared (CIR) orthophotography of New Jersey in State Plane NAD83 Coordinates, U.S. Survey Feet. The digital orthophotography was produced at a scale of 1:2400 (1"=200') with a 1 foot pixel resolution. Digital orthophotography combines the image characteristics of a photograph with the geometric qualities of a map. Digital orthophotography is a process which converts aerial photography from an original photo negative to a digital product that has been positionally corrected for camera lens distortion, vertical displacement and variations in aircraft altitude and orientation. Aerial photography of the entire State of New Jersey was captured during February-April, 2002. The ortho-rectification process achieved a +/-4.0 ft. horizontal accuracy at a 95% confidence level, National Standard for Spatial Data Accuracy (NSSDA). This dataset consists of 5000' x 5000' files in MrSID format with a 15:1 compresssion ratio.
